Physical Property Measurement System (PPMS)

The design concept of the comprehensive physical property measurement system is to integrate fully automatic magnetic, electrical, thermal and morphology, and even ferroelectric and dielectric and other physical property measurement methods on a perfectly controlled extremely low temperature (50 mK) and strong magnetic field (±16 T) platform.

A PPMS system consists of the basic system and various options for measurement and extended functions. It can measure resistivity, AC resistance, differential resistance, Hall effect, critical current and volt-ampere characteristics. It can also be combined with the optional sample rotation rod to measure angle-dependent electrical transport and magnetic properties. The magnetic moment of anisotropic small samples (single crystal, thin film) can be precisely measured by torque magnetometer.

Sample Requirements

  • Powder samples are needed at least 10 mg or more.
  • The maximum size of the block is 2×2×2 mm.
  • Liquid is difficult to measure, please provide at least 5 ml.

Application

  • Measure the magnetic (VSM), electrical (DC resistance, Hall effect, volt-ampere characteristics, etc.), thermal (specific heat, heat transport, etc.) properties of various materials

FAQ

Q1. Can I measure the MT curve without adding an external field?

A. No external field can be added, but it is recommended to magnetize the sample in advance and then reduce the magnetic field to 0.

Q2. The general process of PPMS testing?

A. Related instructions for MH (hysteresis loop or initial magnetization curve) test steps are as follows.

(1) If it is a powder or block sample, weigh the mass.

(2) Load the sample into the sample rod, and put the sample rod into the sample cavity.

(3) Clean the cavity with helium (the program defaults to cleaning three times), and then vacuumize.

(4) Set the temperature and magnetic field, and determine the sample position by scanning the "signal-position" curve of the sample.

(5) Compile the program according to the test requirements, and then click "Run" to test.

(6) When the test is over, set the temperature to 300 K, the magnetic field to 0, and then take out the sample.

Q3. Can PPMS measure AC magnetic susceptibility?

A. Yes. Please provide test frequency, magnetic field, temperature.

Q4. Can the MH curve of liquid metal be measured?

A. Yes. However, liquid metal test samples need to be collected more densely, and the sampling step size needs to be informed in advance.
