Plant respiration is an important biochemical process in which photosynthetic end-products, such as starch and sucrose are oxidized by oxygen to varying degrees and release energy for growth, reproduction and other life processes. It is a metabolic activity of plant living cells. Respiration participates in the regulation of plant morphogenesis and physiological function and is closely related to crop cultivation, breeding and the storage of seeds, fruits and vegetables, roots and tubers, and the preservation of flowers.
