Electroporation

Electroporation, or electropermeabilization, is a technique in which an electrical field is applied to cells in order to increase the permeability of the cell membrane. This may allow chemicals, drugs, electrode arrays or DNA to be introduced into the cell (also called electrotransfer). Electroporation is performed with electroporators, purpose-built appliances that utilize electricity to create an electrostatic field in a cell solution to make cell membranes more permeable so that new substances can be properly introduced. The open or closed systems have user-friendly programming to tailor settings based on specific cell type and throughput required.
