Liquid Chromatography-Charged Aerosol Detection (LC-CAD) Technology

Liquid chromatography is a technique used to separate a sample into its individual parts. This separation occurs based on the interactions of the sample with the mobile and stationary phases. The Charged Aerosol Detector (CAD) is a detector used in conjunction with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and ultra high-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) to measure the amount of chemicals in a sample by creating charged aerosol particles which are detected using an electrometer. Charged aerosol detection (CAD) is a powerful complement to ultraviolet (UV) absorbance and mass spectrometric (MS) detection for liquid chromatography (LC), particularly for analytes that have no UV chromophore, or do not ionize well by electrospray ionization.
