8-Arm Maze Experiment (CAT#: STEM-AE-0004-WXH)

Introduction

The 8-Arm Maze consists of eight identical arms that radiate from a central platform, so it is also called the Radial Maze. There is a food supply device at the end of each arm, and the spatial memory ability of the experimental animals can be reflected according to the analysis of the animal's feeding strategy, that is, the number of times, time, correct times, wrong times, routes and other parameters entering each arm.
Relatively speaking, the eight-arm maze is simple and feasible to operate, and can distinguish short-term working memory from long-term reference memory. It has been widely used in the functional evaluation of learning and memory cognitive experiments.
Its principle is that the animals that control eating are driven by the food to explore each arm of the maze. After a period of training, the animal can remember the spatial position of the food in the maze. This method can simultaneously measure working memory and reference memory of animals.

Applications

• Measure learning and memory performance in neurologically or brain-damaged states
• Studying the Effects of Related Drugs

Procedure

1. Weighing, fasting.
2. Adaptive training, allowing animals to explore freely in the maze.
3. Foraging training.
4. Probe trial.
