This dextran size-exclusion medium is designed for desalting, peptide separation, biological-extract cleanup, and molecular-weight determination. It uses crosslinked dextran with a three-dimensional porous network. Molecules are separated according to their hydrodynamic size and pore accessibility. Large molecules are excluded from the internal pores and elute first. Intermediate molecules enter part of the pore volume and elute later. Smaller molecules penetrate more of the gel structure and experience greater retention. The coarse particles support preparative processing with relatively low flow resistance. The stated fractionation range is 1500-30000 Da.
