The PTR-QMS 3500 is a proton-transfer-reaction quadrupole mass spectrometer for volatile-organic-compound monitoring. A low-pressure micro-glow-discharge ion source generates reagent ions for proton-transfer ionization. The source states that reagent-ion purity can exceed 99.8%. Detection limits are described as reaching the tens-of-pptv range. The instrument supports rapid online real-time analysis without a separate sample-preconcentration step. Selected-mass monitoring and full-range scanning modes are both available. Automatic tuning is used to optimize instrument parameters, and a rapid vacuum-valve arrangement allows reaction reagents to be changed without stopping the instrument.
