PEA (Phenylethyl Alcohol Agar) is a selective medium designed to isolate Gram-positive cocci from mixed cultures containing both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The phenylethyl alcohol in the agar inhibits Gram-negative organisms, allowing preferential growth of Gram-positive species.
