SS Agar (Salmonella-Shigella Agar) is a selective and differential medium designed for the isolation of Salmonella and Shigella species. Salmonella colonies typically appear colorless with black centers due to hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) production, while Shigella colonies remain colorless (H₂S-negative). The medium inhibits gram-positive bacteria and most coliforms, facilitating the detection of these enteric pathogens.
