The Leica Leitz 1512 microtome is an instrument with high cutting precision for efficient preparation of paraffin-embedded specimens in histology and pathology. In the design of the Leitz Model 1512 slicer, all controls are placed on the front of the slicer, allowing quick knife adjustments. This design also ensures easy operation during section thickness setting from 1 to 25 um and controlled sectioning of objects.

In addition to quick and safe knife adjustments, the Leitz 1512 is equipped with a knife block featuring a double-sided bracket that can be moved manually along its 36mm rail and held in place. This quick adjustment can be locked or unlocked with a single lever, which avoids the time of calibrating the object holder forwards or backwards through the spindle. Alignment of the knife with the specimen using a coarse adjustment requires only initial trimming of the object.
