Thiophilic adsorption or thiophilic chromatography is a routine technique for low-cost, simple purification of immunoglobulins. Thiophilic adsorption, first developed by Porath et al. in 1984, is a group-specific, salt-dependent purification technique with pronounced affinity for immunoglobulins and α2-macroglobulin. The principle of thiophilic adsorption is that some proteins in high salt are able to bind to an immobilized ligand containing a sulfone group close to the thioether group. Bound proteins are then eluted upon decreasing salt concentration.

G-Biosciences' Thiophilic Resin binds immunoglobulins, including IgG, IgY, and IgM, from serum, ascitic fluid, or tissue culture supernatant, and then elutes the purified immunoglobulins in a near-neutral aqueous buffer. G-Biosciences' Thiophilic Resin has high binding capacity (~20mg/ml human IgG/ml resin) and broad specificity for immunoglobulin molecules of various species.

Thiophilic adsorption has been used to purify other proteins, including horseradish peroxidase, glutathione peroxidase, lactate dehydrogenase, and allergens.
