The Thermo Scientific Cytospin 4 Cytocentrifuge (formerly the Shandon Cytospin), is the ultimate thin-layer cell preparation system. Synonymous with cytocentrifugation for over 40 years, this reliable instrument is used in more than 15,000 laboratories worldwide. It provides economical thin-layer preparations from any liquid matrix, especially hypocellular fluids such as spinal fluids and urines.
The Thermo Scientific Cytospin 4 cytocentrifuge has the ability to process up to 12 specimens at one time. The Cytospin 4 accepts all protocols from its predecessors, the Shandon Cytospins 1, 2 and 3. The Thermo Scientific Cytospin 4 has a redesigned lid-release mechanism that allows for on-handed opening. For your safety the lid remains locked during rotation. The operator can see the sealed head during cytocentrifugation thanks to the polycarbonate widow.
The Thermo Scientific Cytospin 4 is resistant to accidental fluid spillage on the mechanism and electronic component further more the Cytospin is designed for easy disinfection and is compliant with stringent IEC 61010 standards for centrifuge safety.
A pull out program card allows for up to nine programs to be logged for fast and convenient retrieval.
The program keypad has “easy-touch” design that allows for easier keystrokes and more intuitive programming procedures. A clearly visible speed window displays the programmed spinning speeds from 200 through to 2000 rpm.

A control feature has a standby power-saving mode and displays are also turned on and off by the standby key. Safety alarms include an audible alarm when the cytocentrifuge is out of balance, outside the speed tolerance, or if the lid is not properly locked. The Cytospin 4 will not spin if the lid is not locked. A specimen safety alarm feature reminds users at one-minute intervals to remove specimens. This protects specimens from air-drying and helps ensure consistency in results.

During operation, the instrument’s spinning action tilts the Shandon Cytofunnels upright and centrifuges cells onto the deposition area of the slide, giving all cell types equal opportunity for presentation.
