The single channel adjustable pipette is a hand held instrument used to transfer microlitre volumes of liquid. Plunger movement draws liquid into a disposable tip, and the same movement is reversed to dispense it. The volume to be transferred is set by turning the plunger button until the required figure appears in the counter window. Covering twenty to two hundred microlitres, one instrument spans the range that would otherwise need several fixed volume pipettes. Accuracy and precision figures are quoted at three points in the range, and they tighten as the set volume approaches the maximum. Tips are pushed off with an ejector so that the operator does not touch the used tip. The tip cone can be removed for cleaning and can be sterilised by autoclaving, which matters when the same instrument is used for different assays. A replaceable filter in the cone protects the internal mechanism from aerosol carried into the tip. The body is light and shaped so that the pipette can be used for long dispensing runs without tiring the hand.
