ProBoost Air-Cooled Diffusion Pump manufactured by WELCH is an a diffusion pump. The gas jet is formed by guiding boiling silicone vapor through a hollow cone. No internal moving parts. When the vacuum pressure in the still is lower than 0.2 Torr (200 mTorr), the pumping starts. On an empty, leak-free distillation flask, ProBoost supported by a rotary vane pump reduces the vacuum pressure to 0.00002 torr (20 times lower than the pressure that a 2-stage rotary vane vacuum pump alone accomplishes).
