Mannitol Salt Agar (MSA) is a selective and differential medium specifically designed for the isolation and identification of Staphylococcus species, particularly Staphylococcus aureus, in cosmetic and food industry quality control testing. The high sodium chloride (7.5%) selects for salt-tolerant staphylococci while inhibiting most other bacteria.
