The mobile air disinfector is a self contained unit for reducing the microbial load of room air in healthcare facilities. It draws room air into the cabinet and passes it across an ultraviolet source and a filter bank before returning it to the room. Because the air is recirculated continuously, the unit can run while the room is in normal use. The stated disinfection space defines the largest room volume that can be treated within the specified turn over time. Air circulation is produced by a low noise fan, which keeps operation acceptable beside occupied beds. The ultraviolet stage acts on micro-organisms carried by the air, while the filtration stages capture particles and reduce odour. An enclosure that opens without tools supports lamp inspection, filter replacement and regular cleaning. The cabinet stands on castors so that it can be moved from one ward to another between disinfection cycles. Operation is started and stopped from a single illuminated switch, and no fixed installation work is required.
