Description

Xylose Lysine Deoxycholate (XLD) agar is a selective differential medium specifically designed for isolating and distinguishing enteric pathogens, particularly Salmonella and Shigella species. Salmonella colonies develop characteristic black centers due to hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) production, while Shigella colonies, being H₂S-negative, appear colorless.
