Traumatic Brain Injury Animal Model (CAT#: STEM-AE-0043-WXH)

Introduction

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) refers to damage to the brain caused by external mechanical force, and its clinical incidence is increasing year by year. Generally, Feeney's falling object method is used for modeling. Before modeling, the complete dura mater needs to be exposed surgically. The falling object acts on the complete dura mater, causing cortical contusion. The severity of the injury can be adjusted by changing the weight and height of the falling object.<br />In the case of mild injury, this model resembles the concussion of traumatic brain injury without obvious contusion or focal damage. With more severe blows, this model can produce focal injuries similar to those seen clinically in brain contusions.

Applications

Fully simulate clinical focal traumatic brain injury and cerebral edema, which is of great value to the study of injury mechanism, biological effect and related pathophysiology and pharmacodynamics.

Procedure

1. Anesthetizing Animals.
2. Peel off the periosteum to expose the skull and create a bone window.
3. Impact on the skull to varying degrees of damage.
4. Suture the skull.
5. Post-operative care.
6. Neurobehavioral evaluation.
