These tosyl-functionalized magnetic microspheres are designed for direct covalent immobilization of biomolecules. They use monodisperse polymer particles with embedded magnetite. The magnetic structure provides fast response during separation and washing. A hydrophilic surface improves suspension stability and particle redispersion. Tosyl groups on the particle surface react with amino-containing antibodies and other molecules. The functional groups can be used without a separate surface-activation step. High coupling capacity supports development of sensitive chemiluminescent reagents. The particles can also be used for immunoprecipitation, nucleic-acid extraction, selective capture, screening, and nucleic-acid hybridization.
