This strong cation-exchange medium is designed for downstream purification of proteins, nucleic acids, and peptides. It uses highly crosslinked agarose microspheres grafted with dextran tentacles. Sulfopropyl groups are coupled to the extended dextran chains. The tentacle structure increases the accessible binding area and provides very high capacity. A lysozyme adsorption capacity of 160 mg/mL supports productive capture operations. The medium combines high flow with relatively low backpressure. Low nonspecific adsorption contributes to product recovery and process reproducibility. Broad chemical stability supports exposure to common buffers, detergents, denaturants, and alkaline cleaning solutions. The resin can be scaled from process development to manufacturing columns.
