This hydrophobic interaction medium is designed for purification of antibodies, proteins, peptides, nucleic acids, and other biological macromolecules. It uses a polyacrylate matrix with a hydrophilically modified particle surface. Butyl groups provide moderate hydrophobic interaction sites for biomolecule binding. Proteins adsorb under high-salt conditions according to differences in surface hydrophobicity. Gradual reduction of salt concentration releases molecules according to their interaction strength. The 1000 Å pores facilitate transport of large biological molecules through the particles. The medium combines useful binding capacity with high resolution and stable mechanical properties. It can be regenerated with low-ionic-strength buffer and cleaned with alkaline solution or ethanol.
