This traditional agarose gel-filtration medium is designed for samples with substantial molecular-size differences. It uses four-percent crosslinked agarose gel particles. Separation occurs according to the ability of molecules to enter the internal pore network. Larger species are excluded from more pores and therefore elute earlier. Smaller species enter more of the pore volume and elute later. The medium provides low nonspecific adsorption and high product recovery. It can be reused in repeated purification cycles. The product is suitable for applications that do not require very high resolution. It is applicable to proteins, nucleic acids, and peptides in downstream processing.
