Rubber Hose Testing

A rubber hose is used to convey different solid, liquid or gaseous products either by suction or by discharge. Rubber hose consists of a minimum of three layers: a seamless synthetic rubber tube; one or more reinforcing layers of braided or spiraled cotton fiber, steel wire, carbon fiber, asbestos or synthetic fiber; and an outer cover. The inner tube is specially designed to withstand the attack of the fluid that passes through it. The braided or spiraled layers determine the strength of the hose. Rubber hose is widely used in vacuum off-loading applications, mobile conveying systems where a degree of natural flexibility is required. Its particular properties also make it ideal for use in systems where the material being conveyed may be friable, abrasive, or cohesive.

STEMart provides a variety of lab testing services for rubber hose and advise you on the best standard testing package for your products.

Test Capabilities

Hydrostatic pressure test

  • Burst test: Determine the pressure at which rubber hose will leak or rupture
  • Hold test: Determine whether weakness will develop under a given pressure fora specified period of time
  • Proof pressure test
  • Measurement of deformation under pressure:
    • Percent length change (elongation or contraction)
    • Percent outside diameter change
    • Volumetric expansion
    • Twist test: Measure the rotation of the free end of the hose
    • Warp test: Measure the deviation from a straight line drawn from fitting to fitting
    • Rise test: Measure the height of a hose rising from the test table surface
