Description

Tantalum Carbide (Ta4C3Tx), is a typical representative material among the emerging family of 2D layered transition metal carbides and/or nitrides referred to as MXenes. It has exhibited multiple advantages such as metallic conductivity, a plastic layer structure, small band gaps, and the hydrophilic nature of its functionalized surface.
Tantalum (Ta)-based MXene (Ta4C3Tx) is well-known due to its excellent bio-functionality when compared to other MXene counterparts such as titanium (Ti)- and niobium (Nb)-based composites. The physical properties of Ta, including density, electrical conductivity and mechanical Young’s modulus are higher in comparison to Ti and Nb. In fact, the exfoliated tantalum carbide MXene nanosheets have been recently reported as efficient nanoplatforms for cancer therapy.
