Description

Niobium Carbide (Nb4C3Tx), is a typical representative material among the emerging family of 2D layered transition metal carbides and/or nitrides referred to as MXenes. It has exhibited multiple advantages such as metallic conductivity, a plastic layer structure, small band gaps, and the hydrophilic nature of its functionalized surface.
A theoretical calculation has determined that Nb-based MXenes have a high conductivity, especially Nb4C3Tx. MXene with high “n” index is considered to have greater stability, and the hydrogen-adsorbed Gibbs free energy (ΔGH) of OH-terminated Nb4C3Tx is close to zero, proving it to be a potential hydrogen evolution catalyst. Nb4C3Tx has been widely used in different applications such as energy storage, dye adsorption, supercapacitors, photocatalytic hydrogen production, hematopoietic recovery, electrochemical sensors and photothermal tumor eradication.
