This high-performance hydrophobic interaction medium is designed for fine separation of biological macromolecules. It uses a high-resolution agarose matrix functionalized with phenyl ligands. The phenyl groups interact with hydrophobic regions on proteins and related molecules. Binding occurs under elevated salt conditions and elution occurs as salt concentration decreases. The 24-44 µm particles provide higher chromatographic resolution than larger process beads. A protein adsorption capacity of 24 mg HSA/mL supports preparative polishing. Spherical particles provide uniform packing and reproducible separation. Broad chemical and pH stability support repeated purification and cleaning cycles.
