Description

MacConkey Agar serves as both a selective and differential medium, primarily designed for the identification and isolation of gram-negative bacteria. Its formulation includes crystal violet and bile salts, which suppress gram-positive bacterial growth. On this medium, lactose-fermenting coliforms appear as brick-red colonies, while non-fermenters remain colorless.
