Determination of total organic carbon in high purity water by ultraviolet oxidation technology (CAT#: STEM-PPA-0139-LJX)

Introduction

TOC in high purity water will bring serious harm to semiconductor, microelectronics and other industries. TOC in high purity water can be determined by ultraviolet oxidation technology.

Principle

The principle of ultraviolet oxidation method is as follows: Using ultraviolet light to illuminate the water sample to be tested, the water will decompose into hydroxyl and hydrogen groups. The hydroxyl group combines with the oxide to produce CO2 and water, and the total organic carbon content is calculated by measuring the newly generated CO2. When using ultraviolet oxidation method, the oxidation capacity can be improved by adding titanium dioxide, persulfate, etc. The advantage of ultraviolet oxidation method is high oxidation efficiency and simple maintenance, but the disadvantage is that the UV lamp needs to be replaced regularly.

Applications

For the determination of total organic carbon in liquids

Procedure

1. Ultraviolet light illuminates the water sample
2. The water sample is oxidized to produce CO2 and water
3. CO2 content was determined by infrared absorption method
4. Calculate the total organic carbon in the water sample by CO2 content

Materials

• Sample Type:
High purity water

Notes

UV lamps need to be replaced regularly.
