Benzodiazepines are central nervous system (CNS) depressant drugs often prescribed for the treatment of insomnia, anxiety, and epilepsy. However, this class of drugs can promote both tolerance and dependence and may also have an impact on the performance of given situations such as driving a vehicle or the ability to remain focused at work. Despite the distribution control of benzodiazepines in many countries, this class of drugs has been used in suicide attempts.
