Bacterial Identification by Flow Cytometry (CAT#: STEM-CBT-0079-WXH)

Introduction

Specific bacterial detection and identification is important in clinical diagnosis, food safety monitoring, and water quality control. Rapid and specific detection of bacteria is one of the earliest applications envisioned for FCM. Combined with immunofluorescent staining, FCM has been applied to specifically detect many pathogenic strains among other microorganisms, such as Haemophilus, Salmonella, Mycobacterium, Brucella, Branhamella catarrhalis, Mycoplasma fermentans, P.aeruginosa, Bacteroides fragilis, and Legionella.

Principle

The specific recognition between antibody and antigen;
Bacteriophages can be applied to the specific detection of bacteria.

Applications

• Clinical diagnosis.
• Food safety monitoring.
• Water quality control.
• Detection of bacterial physiological changes under environmental perturbations.
• Measures the growth condition of bacteria in the presence of antibiotics.
• Measure bacterial responses to other chemical and physical stresses.

Procedure

1. Preparation of single cell suspensions of samples
2. Labeling of antibodies
3. Detection by flow cytometry

Materials

PI, TO-PRO-3, SYTOX, CTC, DiOC2(3)
