CCL24, also known as eosinophilic chemotactic protein 2 (eotaxin-2), bone marrow progenitor inhibitory factor 2 (MPIF-2), a small cytokine of the CC chemokine family, is located on chromosome 7 in the human genome. CCL24 showed strong chemotactic activity against resting T lymphocytes and eosinophils, and low chemotactic activity against neutrophils, but no chemotactic activity against monocytes and activated lymphocytes. By binding to its only receptor, CCR3, which is found primarily on eosinophils, but also on basophils, monocytes, Th2 lymphocytes, epithelial cells, and airway smooth muscle. CCL24 mediates atopic diseases, parasitic infections and systemic diseases. It also promotes cell transport and regulates inflammatory and fibrotic activity.
